Who We Are

The Burnham Philosophy Group is a well-established discussion group that meets (with a couple of exceptions) on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at the Burnham Community Centre on the Berrow Road in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.  The meetings are open to all interested people and topics range from specific philosophers and philosophical ideas to much broader intellectual concerns.  Our speakers include professional philosophers and academics but many also come from the ranks of our members.  You can just sit and listen if you like or join in at question time if you have a point to discuss.  A prior knowledge of philosophy is not essential but if you enjoy lively debate in a friendly atmosphere then you will enjoy these meetings.

The fees are modest, the annual subscription is only £10 but you can pay £1.50 a meeting if you prefer. The usual format of the meetings is that our speaker speaks for about an hour; we then have a tea break and continue afterwards, usually with questions and discussion, until 9.30.

Details of meetings also appear in the press and on posters around the town and on this website.
